The Pussy Willow: A sense that we can have a new Beginning
“In Our Woods, Sometimes a Rare Music
Every spring
I hear the thrush singing
in the glowing woods
he is only passing through.
His voice is deep,
then he lifts it until it seems
to fall from the sky.
I am thrilled.
I am grateful.
Then, by the end of morning,
he’s gone, nothing but silence
out of the tree
where he rested for a night.
And this I find acceptable.
Not enough is a poor life.
But too much is, well, too much.
Imagine Verdi or Mahler
every day, all day.
It would exhaust anyone.”
― Mary Oliver, A Thousand Mornings
Thank you Mary Oliver for those beautiful words, thank you for reminding us of the beauty in Spring. I hadn’t heard of Mary Oliver until this year, when many of the people I follow on Facebook were speaking of her and her passing.
It was Week 13 and the theme was Something New. Spring is always about new Beginnings for me. I am hoping for a slow snow melt this spring, eventhough I am looking forward to the warm weather. As I sat in my living room I noticed that pussy willow had some pussy?? on them . It felt and seemed strange because the snow was still almost a foot high around the tree. However, it gave me hope.
Here is my picture of Something New!
